We're Doing It
We the People for Education is a non-partisan 501c4 focused on supporting and empowering pro-public education leadership in all of Virginia’s communities. We support school board candidates and community groups in every corner of the Commonwealth who share our values of a strong public education system enriched by strong communities and local leadership.
Our vision
We envision a Commonwealth where school board members are representative of the students and communities they serve and have shared experiences that inform their leadership. These individuals work together with educators and families to reflect Virginians’ values: student-centered leadership, focus on good governance and strong financial stewardship, practical and responsible policy outcomes, and pushing back against political extremism. With this style of leadership shaping our schools, our communities and students will thrive.

We the People for Education assists candidates running for school board through free professionalized campaign services, data management, policy and communications guidance, training, mentorship, coalition building, and other direct support. We know that changes in student outcomes are not possible without changes in adult behavior, and we are dedicated to finding the next generation of good governance-focused local leaders.

School boards are only as strong as the communities they serve. Working with parent and local groups, We the People for Education coordinates school board engagement and offers toolkits, training, and strategy support for community groups. We love turning big ideas into actions!
reclaiming the narrative
Extremist groups push harmful disinformation aimed at dividing parents, teachers, and school board members. This disruption takes away from the real work of our school boards, and has lowered the bar for what constitutes productive discourse. We the People for Education aims to shift these narratives, providing on ramps for community members to positively engage in our schools.
